For over 100 years, the Johnson County Public Library has been encouraging students to read all summer long with its summer learning program. To ensure a stable funding source for this essential annual Library program, we are launching the Explore Summer Endowment. Residents, businesses and organizations have an opportunity to create a lasting legacy and invest in lifelong learning in our county. When fully funded, the endowment will fund 100% of the Explore Summer program. Forever!
Daily reading during summer break improves reading skills, develops a love of reading, prevents summer learning loss, and better prepares students for returning to school. Library records show that the summer reading program existed as far back as 1922. To participate, students wrote letters to the Library about books they read. The endowment ensures that Explore Summer will be funded for the next 100 years and beyond!
Our goal is to raise $500,000 over the next ten years to fully fund the endowment. It’s an ambitious goal, but we are off to a good start. As of October 1, 2024, we have raised over $15,000. An anonymous donor is matching the first $25,000 raised. Please donate today to have the value of your gift doubled.
