Getaway to Savannah

The JCPL Foundation invites you and your friends to join them on a literary journey to Savannah, Georgia on Tuesday, October 14 through Saturday, October 18, 2025. This five-day trip includes great Savannah sites, such as the Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home, bookstores, the Savannah Public Library and the historic Mercer Williams House, made famous by Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Airfare, hotel and many meals are included.

Day One: Tue. Oct. 14

We arrive in Savannah and check in to a charming hotel in or near the Historic District, the perfect base for exploring the city. Next, we take an open-air trolley tour of the Historic District  to learn about Savannah’s rich history and architecture. This evening, we savor a classic Southern feast at Paula Deen's The Lady & Sons, known for its warm hospitality and signature dishes. Following dinner, we immerse ourselves in Savannah's mysterious allure with a Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil-themed ghost tour, visiting eerie sites and uncovering the city's secrets. Day Two: Wed. Oct 15

Our day begins with a visit to the Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home, where we explore the life and literary legacy of this iconic author. Across the street, admire the breathtaking St. John the Baptist Cathedral. After enjoying lunch on our own, we immerse ourselves in Savannah’s vibrant literary culture. We visit The Book Lady Bookstore, and then head to E. Shaver, Bookseller, a quaint bookshop. Later, we take a leisurely stroll through Chippewa Square, the picturesque setting of the famous Forrest Gump bench scene. This evening, we enjoy a delightful dinner. Breakfast/Dinner

Day Three: Thu. Oct. 16

After breakfast, we visit the Savannah Public Library. Next, we stroll through Forsyth Park, pausing to admire the iconic fountain Our next stop is the historic Mercer Williams House, made famous by Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Afterward, we enjoy a hearty lunch. Then, we visit Books on Bay, a delightful hop specializing in vintage books and whimsical antiques. We stroll along River Street, exploring its boutiques and enjoying river views. Be sure to stop by the Savannah Bee Company to sample local honey. We indulge in a seafood dinner at a restaurant this evening. Breakfast/Dinner

Day Four: Fri. Oct 17

Explore the Savannah City Market, and discover art galleries, and boutiques. Enjoy lunch on your own. Then embark on a Savannah Harbor sightseeing Cruise to Old Fort Jackson. We enjoy a farewell dinner at an iconic Savannah restaurant. Breakfast/Dinner

Day Five: Sat. Oct 18

Enjoy a leisurely farewell breakfast before departing for the airport, taking with you the memories of Savannah’s unique charm and rich history. Breakfast

TOUR COST

  • $3,199/per person double occupancy.

    • $600 extra for one person/room.

  • $2,999/per person three/room.

  • $2,899/per person four/room.

  • Estimated roundtrip air transportation (including all related taxes and fees) of $500.

  • Private, deluxe touring coach and driver throughout the tour.

  • Meals as indicated in the itinerary (4 breakfasts and 4 dinners).

  • Admission for all attractions mentioned in the itinerary.

  • Services of a professional tour guide throughout the tour.

  • Handling of one piece of luggage per person at hotels where available.

  • All taxes and tips for provided services, including end of tour tips to driver and guide.

  • $200 per person contribution to the Library Foundation.
